Micro Eco-Ranching in Texas
First of all, what the heck is Micro Eco-Ranching?
Urban homesteading, Micro Eco-Ranching, Micro Eco-Farming and backyard/urban farming are terms used to describe those who farm sustainably on a portion of an acre to 20 or so acres. This is actually a popular movement that has really taken off in recent years. With many of us discovering how poor the quality and safety of the typical food that is available, many people are beginning to raise food for themselves and their local community.
At one time, not so long ago, large pieces of land for farming and agriculture were available to people of average means. Unfortunately this is no longer the case today. For many who are interested in farming and raising livestock, they quickly realize they need to efficiently make due on much smaller acreage. By utilizing new (and sometimes very old) techniques that are environmentally friendly, sustainable and economically sound, today’s ‘micro’ farmers are learning how to produce considerably higher yields, with lower costs per acre than the environmentally unsound corporate factory farms that are far too prevalent today.
There are many resources available, including books and websites, on sustainable micro eco-farming and urban homesteading which contain a wealth of knowledge and tips for micro farmers, ranchers and even just individuals trying to grow some fresh veggies for themselves. We will also be posting articles on these subjects in the near future, and will hopefully become a great resource for those interested in learning more.
